usual equipment ?

  • I just listened to a 30db over noice signal produced by a 2m dish with 3W.

The operator mentioned it as "usual equipment".

    :/

Can someone please tell him how terrible this behaviour is?

Not stronger than the beacon, like the last decades on AO10, 13 and 40. Nothing has changed, but some guys will not understand such a easy rule. And sorry to say but most of them are germans.

    I´m sorry for that!

  • I am going to transmit first time via Satellite the next week. I have understand the level of the beacons are the maximum allowed power level.

I am using a 1m prime focus mesh dish with a helix feed.

How much power should I use? What is the estimated necessary power for a good signal but not too strong?

I can adjust my power between 100mW and 120Watt. I was thinking to start with 10 Watts. The transverter is installed very close to the feed just 2m high quality cable.

    Is this too much?

Thank you for your advice and suggestions. Satallite Amateur Radio is new to me.

    Regards

To tell somebody that he is running too much power, we would need to know who to talk to (contact me directly.. my email is in the web..). LEILA is not fully commissioned yet, please stay tuned. But it will be only a marker/siren which people may choose to ignore (especially when not working full duplex).

Wow, what a dish! I think its for EME. Begin with 100 mW and observe the strength of the beacon. If you have no SDR (like me), observe the signals on WebSDR:

Your signal should not be stronger than the beacon signal.

  • Thank you. I have some SDRs from RFspace. So I can monitor the signal.

Transmitting on 23cm with BU500 and 2.4 GHz 50 MHz Bandpass, receiving on 70cm (LNB with GPSDO).

The SDR is linked parallel to the receiver (connected to the 10 MHz IF output).

Receiving Antenna is 1,2m offset Dish.

    Hello Martin,

I think 10 Watts on the feed of a 1,2m dish is to much by using a cw carrier.

I have a solid dish with 1,2m, 1 Watt TX power produces a strong signal about 20 dB over SN.

I am interested in your results. Please report here :)
    I wish you success!
