Unable to hear any beacons

Hi,

I've had regular success picking up the SSTV transmissions from the ISS, using my VX-6 HT and just holding the speaker up to the mic of my smartphone with the SSTV decode software on. I've always received a strong signal. However despite many attempts with various satellites, I'm unable to pick up any beacons. Can anyone explain? Is it just that the ISS is in lower orbit than all the sats, so the signal is stronger, or does the ISS transmit at higher power than any sat?

Yes, the ISS transmits with higher power than all sats. Only to receive (FUNcube) beacons on 2m, I suggest to buy an external antenna like this one.

M6YDZ as written on the internetpage.. you can also use it for any other receiver on the same frequency range.. you can also use it to receive the weather sats on 137 MHz.

Hi, I think die VX-6 HT is a FM/AM trx.

With this trx you have no chance to receive any satellite who works in SSB.

Try a look in HB9SKA´s OSCAR News, there you can find a few satellites working in FM.

The FUNcube's have a downlink on 2m, you can choose any "HAMsat" with 2m downlink, also the APRS-sats on 145.825 MHz. For beacon/downlink QRG download my weekly PDF:

If you want listen also on 70cm a/o make QSO's you need an other antenna and we need more infos from you. Hope this helps.
