I was just wondering if there will also be a revamped band plan at some point, such as the 1 MS slots moving down to fill the space and more RB slots at the top? I am sure it is already in hand and well thought out.

I would suggest going down to 1 Ms rather than 1.5Ms. The quality that can be sent in 1 Ms H264 is really good. Even at 2/3 FEC. As the beacon is a fixed sequence, the coding could be done in advance and just a pre-prepared TS with all the optimisation thrown at it.

Thanks for your info I agree to have more space another 0.5 MHz more space on the transponder, let's see if 2 mega does not take away space even for other users can work 1000, 500, 333, 250 125 more space

Nice to hear any news in that matter!

There is one feature that is easy to make, and we would be very happy about it - turning beacon off at 18:00 to 24:00 every day.

Peter can You post for download best quality version of beacon video. We could play with it for quality / bitrate.

Thanks for the responses, I was wondering about it as there was little news I could find on the subject. I was also wondering to myself if the reduction in bandwidth would also have a corresponding reduction in power consumption of the amateur side of the satellite, I guess it must have some effect when on for 24 hours a day. Also the uplink would not need as much punch to get a signal to the same MER etc. Overall a reduction in required power levels if only minor. Is there any advance notice of the revised band plan out there as I can only guess that software for Minitiouner, Pluto and probably others would need to be revised?

Anyway doing a good job.

What kind of equipment is used for the NB / WB uplink transmitter probably not a Pluto and/or Portsdown......

Or is there a link with more info about the used equipment/antenna used power and so on.

In my opinion the best solutions for the WB Transponder (but I know that are difficult solutions) are :

a) Reducing beacon speed to 1 M/s.

b) Every 1 hour the tx of the beacon stops 1 Minutes, if someone transmit in the beacon slot at 1 M/s, the ground station beacon will stop to tx until the 1 M/s beacon slot is busy. You can apply a 60 Minute "Watchdog timer" to guarantee, visibility of normal beacon. This means that after 60 Minutes the beacon restart and 12 Hours are guarantee of visibility for the Amsat-DL/QARS beacon.

This solution is possible also for a 2 M/s beacon, with some different similar rules.
