DATV Beacon changes

Yes, we shiftet the DATV beacon more to the "left", see https://eshail.batc.org.uk/wb/
BATC will update the Bandplan and WB display accordingly soon...

Hello Peter and the group.
I am positive that the beacon changes will be seen as good for all DATV users and I will say thank you to the team for doing it.
I wonder if the Overpower indicator would be left at the previous power level for wide signals as really nothing else has changed for us apart from getting more space?
It may be that the overpower has to be set at the same level as the beacon I am not sure, I will monitor when others get it and see.
Any thoughts?

Hi Adrian,
Changing the markings on the WB-WebSDR will probably have to wait until the weekend as Phil is “off the grid” for a few days.
The overpower indication will also need adjusting, as it was referenced to the measured beacon power density.
There will also be an updated WB bandplan soon..Because today's operation needed several engineers on both sides involved, and we were "playing" around to find the best settings and shift the beacon as far to the "left side" of the spectrum as possible, we could not make any further planning in advance..

Hi Adrian,
when the bandplan and WB display get updated our friends from BATC/AMSAT-UK will also check and if needed adapt the overpower indicator. it may take a couple of days as people there are busy ... please be patient, thank you.Kind regards
Matthias

As far as I know, the over power message is determined and reported via the "spectral power density" of the transmission.
So there is no line as in the NB transponder for the power to be used.
Perhaps the operator of the BATC monitor can comment on this ...

Hi all; No problems waiting.
I am now picking up the beacon at an MER of 10, which is still a D5 with the change in FEC, so from that perspective the playing has gone well.
There were a few 1MS signals up at the same level as the beacon, so guess for the time being the overpower indicator is level with it.
My thoughts were on increased power requirements of the satellite if there was an average increase in power usage overall and as large signals tend to drop the re-transmitted signal then lower EIRP users could see a more drastic reduction in their signals through the satellite.
I am happy to wait for the bandplan changes to be announced then I can send updated spreadsheets around to a few friends to assist them with their operation 333KS1 333 KS2 etc.
Be happy, stay safe.

Thanks - I am seeing an MER of 11.6 to 11.7. My system is not optimised, but is a 2.4m dish. Because of the reduced FEC this is about the same margin. As summer develops and trees grow this will reduce but a useful benchmark.

Hallo ...
first reception test this evening after the change.... cold and clear sky in germany...
MER 11.6dB D7 @ 120cm OFFSET DISH... (with empty transponder)
So some more space to play now ... and really good sig of the beacon now... reaching BADR4 Signal level 11.996H
TNX AMSAT ...
EDIT: 2nd signal TEST on 85cm TDA88 8.3-8.5dB (TBS6522, EBS Pro 17)

The FEC is normal (64.800) or short (16.200) ?

Hi,
The rolloff has changed to 0.2 ?
-
Hi George,
from what do you conclude that the rolloff should / could have changed ?

Hi,
In the screen dump with red circle there is 20 which must be roll-off. Is that so?
-
Hello,
not sure, because the Minitioune soft read out the rolloff value which is transmitted with the TS. Did not really measure the rolloff.

Hi,
If is so the TS transmitted rolloff must match the actual rolloff?
