Just got this Megasat Diavolu. At least the outline of the chip set looks the same. Any advice on the chip set used or how to do the mod for external LO ...?

For the Mod I would use de soldering braid to lift one of the F connector pins off the board and add some insulation underneath it.
Carefully remove the crystal to leave the pads intact. With the single crystal for 2 channel type LNB's its a bit tricky so you may have to try connecting the isloated F pin to one then the other crystal pad via a 10nf capacitor and see which one works. When you've found the right pad then add a 100 ohm or similar resistor from the f pin/10nf junction to a convenient earth point.

You can check which pin to use with a simple functiongenerator and a scope :
(no need to put it in the dish)
First of all : Make it an antistatic workplace !
All semiconductors in LNBs are very sensitive !
After removing the crystal,
power up the LNB just by giving around 12 V to one of the F-Connectors.
Take a functiongenerator an set it at the crystalfrequency and an output of about 1 Vss sinewave.
Now connect the functiongenerator via a capacitor of about 1nF to one of the ex x-tal pads.
Now check with a scope the unused pad : There should be a signal, similar to the one you supplied.
If not, exchange the pads and check again.

Oeps, this Diavolo Twin looks different then the Twin Diavolo, Armin DF1QE showed us before on his website

The 2 Diavolo Twin LNBs I modified was bought at Reichelt Elektronik Germany for about 12,- Eur.
@Helmut DL8DAK
Where did you buy yours ?

There seem to be 2 different Diavolo Twin's on the market , this is the one also for sale by Reichelt: https://www.amazon.de/HB-DIGIT…AVOLO-BLACK/dp/B01M0I932M and this is probably an older version which can been found by some other shops: https://www.amazon.de/Megasat-…n-LNB-0-1dB/dp/B00175PH6E so indeed hopefully DL8DAK can tell us which one he bought ?

Hereafter you find the link of the Amazon page showing the Megasat twin LNB I ordered recently. The LNB came with two sparate PLL's each for one ot the outputs. Please note there was only one crystal for both PLL's. Very different to what I saw so far ...!

Could be the 'same' LNB as from DF1QE but with a different PCB

Xtal removed with tiny side cutters. Now I’m wondering what should I do next?

Hi all togehter,
more infos and discussion on the MEGASAT TWIN LNB mods as well as on the technical advises could be found here (in German) Elektronik Muenster by DF1QE.

Meanwhile I modified several Diavolo Twin LNBs for an external LO input.
I found out that there are at least 3 very different versions of this LNB in the market.
After I wrote a report of my modifications V1 several month ago, I wrote a second one called V2 in which I also show the V3.
You can find them at : https://elektronik-muenster.de/viewforum.php?f=17
German language only, sorry.
But there are many photos, so everyone should understand it.

Yep, mine is V1. Smd components for modification just a arrived.
X-tal and capasitors are removed and pcb cleaned, ready for installing new smd’s.
Have to have steady hand and magnifing clas, so let’s see.

Hello Sat Fans !
Meanwhile several types of Diavolo Twin LNBs appeared in the market.
I named them V1, V2 and V3 in order of the appearance in my Workplace.
For V1 and V2 I already wrote modification reports and posted them here earlier.
Meanwhile I found out that V3 is the oldest one, then came V1 and V2 seems to be the "up to date" one.
I got several requests about V3, which I thought it was out of the market, but they were still sold, especially on Amazon.
So I wrote a modification report for V3 too.
BTW: V3 is completely different to V1 and V2.
Here is a list for all Diavolo modification reports I wrote :
V1 : https://elektronik-muenster.de/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=11
V2 : https://elektronik-muenster.de/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=31
V3 : https://elektronik-muenster.de/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=8204
All Pages are german language but there are lots of photos and shematics so it will help all.
In other case "deepl" helps.
Hope this was an interesting information for you.
