Do you refer to Amsat beacon or Engeenering beacon of Es'Hailsat-2 related to the control of the satellite ?
10,489.550 GHz Is the Amsat Narrow band Beacon frequency (almost nearest to this), of one beacon.

Directly after the launch, which put Es'hail-2 in a highly elliptical orbit, the manufacturer MELCO in Japan made several orbit raising maneuvers to quickly bring the perigee out of earth atmosphere drag, than to further circularize the orbit and also reduce inclination. This took several days followed by unfolding of the solar panels, antennas and so on. Meanwhile Es'hail-2 should be close to a temporary parking position in GEO from where the In-Orbit-Testing will be performed. The IOT testing will be performed from the new Es'hailSat Teleport in Qatar.
Try-out and opening of both AMSAT transponders is planned after the IOT phase is finished, we currently expect that this will not happen before January/February next year.
Please understand that this is a multi-million commercial satellite and we are only a small part of it. As AMSAT we are not in a position to confirm any non-official in information as above. But obviously the new bird seems to be in good healthy

Hi Peter,
before all thank you for your nice job with the Amsat-Dl team, about effort to bring us in space. There's a growing enthusiasm on the capability of the new satellite, for the ham-sat community. We're all hungry of news (hope in good news), and for this reason someone, sometimes exceed in the requests (I'm in this group 
).
Anyway it's necessary to be patient and i strongly suggest to my colleagues to respect sat guidelines, appeared in the forum and in Amsat-DL pages.

Apparently those satellite operators are not like us. When we get a new box on the doorstep, we want to try it out, turn the dial, listen for the noise from the receiver, not run the extended selftest that takes a month to complete
Thanks Allessio, well I think they share our enthusiasm and understand it very well.. but they also have their stakeholders which they have to serve first
pe1chl Well, I believe the engineers (we meet them) are also very excited to turn the dials.. but the characterization of all parameters during the IOT Phase is very important for them too, also a mater of insurance and other things related to the commercial contract and agreed specification with the satellite manufacturer. One of the time consuming things they do is to make a full roll in both axes to measure the complete antenna pattern and so on.. calibrating thrusters for station keeping, etc.. so, they have a lot of work, not just simple "selftest" But certainly different from how we do it after launch..
Of course I understand... just a bit impatient to see the signal levels we will get from the transponder
If the beacon is any indication, it will be very good. I get its carrier at 30dB over the noise on my DTH TV dish which is not really optimal in performance.
(of course the antenna gain for the beacon may be quite different from the antenna we get, but I am guessing it is also a broader pattern not like the pattern for the DTH transponders, which are quite weak here from the typical satellites operated for that region)
Absolutely Rob, the whole P4-A team is very excited and can't wait to see the first "real signals" coming down But we have still a lot of work ahead to install and test all our ground-station equipment for and with the AMSAT P4-A Transponders in the Es'hailSat Satellite Control Center in Qatar...
Regarding the downlink, the DTH will have a completly different Antenna coverage than our AMSAT transponders.
Peter, do you know if the beacon is transmitted on an antenna with that pattern, or of a broader beam (maybe a hemi like we will get) is being used?
I was amazed to get 30dB S/N on the beacon, expecting an antenna pattern like the above.
Or maybe that was during a test of the antenna pattern as you indicated above, when I listened earlier today it was a lot weaker.
I remember that Michael oh2aue received the EB from Es'hail-1 a while ago from Finland using a 1,20m dish and Funcube dongle..
Since Es'hail-1 does not have a beam to Europe, I would assume the EB is coming from a dedicated more wide beam feed..
Everything else would be under NDA which I signed for AMSAT-DL

I saw yesterday afternoon, the Phase 4A the 2 beacons appearing.
Signal louder on 10500 than 10450, on my side.

on 10500 = -76dBm => 14dBm/SNR
What explains such a difference in the level of the two beacons? Do others see the same situation ?
The noise stay alike -90 dBm, at the bottom and top of the transponder band. Idea?

Just to make sure.. did you made a sanity check, i.e. did the signal disappear when you moved the antenna a little bit to the left and right?
At which °E Spot do you point the antenna?

I have a Octagon Dual Output LNB (Happened to be going spare, I'm keeping the PLL one safe and warm in the house until P4A is officially activated), so I checked the frequencies in question. I found strong carriers right where Christian did,using my Ettus N210 with SBX board, 5MHz bandwidth, tuned 1MHz off the frequencies above, carriers showed up +1MHz up from the centre exactly where expected however:
1) They were there when I moved the dish well away from 24E
2) Switching polarization seemed to have no effect on them
3) They were there even with no power to the LNB
I rather suspect a local source on/near my IF (699MHz/749MHz) , certainly in my case.

You, Christian and Iain, have Octagon LNBs and Peter have not confirmed any beacon activity. My conclusion is, as Iain wrote, its a "local LNB beacon", right ?
