Cannot say anything about the uplink sensitivity but the downlink signal certainly is very strong! This time I will not be limited by receiver sensitivity, that is for sure.
(sometimes this has been an issue with earlier Phase3 sats)
When the transponder is officially released of course I will try with my 2 Watts as well. Maybe it could work, especially before the aligators get there.
However, with this bird there should not be a reason for being aligator.
My dish is aimed at 26°E and this means that the satellite has reached its final position, probably.
The last available keps are two days old but the signals from the satellite seem to confirm the position at 26°E

At this time of writing the beacon switches on and off (with varying signal strenghts). I have it here at 10489.675 (+/- RTL-TCXO deviations).
I reckon I also see the transponder noise. When I listen 1 Mhz higher or lower the noise floor here significantly decreases.

What you see is still IOT by Melco to ensure everything is according to specifications and that there will be no negative side effects..
So please don't transmit any Uplink signals, when you see it turned on.. we have to be patient and demonstrate our best reputation..

What we see now looks very promising w.r.t. received signal strength.
I have not seen the two beacons as described by DH5MK, just a single carrier of varying strength.
(and the transponder AGC acting upon it when it became much stronger, not when it is just 20dB above the noise)

It is a very nice Christmas present indeed Both beacons have been spotted here in .UK on my 1.1M dish. Like others, signal strength varies, but that's to be expected with Melco doing IOT.
The 1,1M dish is far easier to point than I feared...Find 28E2, then move towards south until 28E2 drops out, then one more nudge towards south and there it is! Should be even easier when P4A gets to 26E

That was a test at or near saturation, it seems. >50dB signal/noise here.
Obviously they are putting the AGC through its paces.. more input makes the transponder noise go down. So far so good!

The two spikes beside must be from the RTL SDR stick. They came up while I reduce the gain because of the strong signal!

Yes that is a much easier method than trying to point it to a calculated AZ/EL, as I wrote in another topic. Especially with an offset dish that is very difficult to do. We are lucky because we have strong DVB transmissions at and near the same location, of course it will be different for those that are in remote locations in the footprint.

I saw a couple of signals going up and down the transponder. We hope they are from Melco.
51 years ago today I got my 1st call DM3GJL and now the 1st signals from P4A - my joy is very big
