    Hi Achim,


    yes indeed ... 500 Emails in 3 weeks in my ARISS folder LOL


    But it was really fun seeing the ham radio team from 3 different clubs in Freiburg, Emmendingen and Heilbronn working together so nicely and also the students helped during the setup of the station. We managed to get the antennas and the station up and running in about 6 hours. At the previous contacts we needed up to 10 hours ...


    The rewards is always to see the big smile in the faces of the students after such a successful event ...


    We hope to be able to attract some of them for the scheduled ham radio class starting in November.

  • Upcoming ARISS contact with Science & Technologie e.V. / event: Science Days, Teningen, Germany

    Thank you Peter and Thomas for posting the information about the contact.

    iIt was a interesting week as we had to shift the date/time due to the problems in the ISS which was demanding an unscheduled EVA.


    Originally the contact was scheduled for today, Friday.


    Fortunately we (the team was comprised of Ham radio friends from DARC P05, A16 and A05) had built up the station already on Tuesday and did all final testing including a final dry run with the students on Wednesday afternoon.


    On Wendnesday evening I got the message that the contact could not happen on Friday due to the EVA.


    Saturday was also blocked and thus the only chance was to pull in the schedule to Thursday. Within 15 minutes after talking with my Ham Radio team and the school teacher I could confirm that we can accomodate Thurday and thus we saved the contact ...


    Many thanks to the ARISS team for helping us to get that new time slot !


    The QSO worked out very well and we got 17 questions answered by Luca.

    as Achim DH2VA has clearly pointed out: the limit is the beacon level, not higher .... full stop !


    There is no need for higher power. The signals are perfectly clear even 6dB below.


    I do not think that we should adjust the LEILA level to the beacon level as many people
    will just start playing around with it. LEILA should not be used to adjust the own power
    level, it should be only triggered when signals are significantly too high.


    I agree that the LEILA level is presently adjusted very high. Maybe it should be lowered but not
    close to the beacon level. Radio amateurs should be able to monitor their downlink signal and

    and adjust their signals in amplitude and and spectrum quality on their own.


    I also think that we should politely mention to other OMs, when their signal is not clean or too strong.


    If they do not listen, then let us name them also here in the forum. We cannot ignore it.


    Hopefully that will help to get the situation under control.


    It is up to all of us to lead with good example.

  • My LNB modification nightmare...

    was für einen Spiegel hast Du für Deine Messungen verwendet ?


    Das Transponderrauschen könnte etwas deutlicher heraus kommen. Anbei ein Screenshot wie es bei mir sichtbar ist. Ic h sehe etwa 8dB.


    Ich verwende derzeit einen 1.8m prime focus Spiegel mit einem f/D=0.29, POTY feed ohne Linse und ein nicht modifzierter dual Octagon (ich meine das ist der alte OTLSO wie Du ihn hast).

  • Software DVB-S demodulator

    Hallo Peter,
    vielen Dank für den Tip den LimeSDR abzustecken und wieder anzustecken.

    Leider hat das nichts gebracht. Ich habe auch versucht den USB Port zu wechseln,
    das hilft leider auch nichts.

    Ich habe jetz mal einen Airspy-mini angeschlossen und damit geht es.

    Allerdings stürzt das Programm nach einigen Minuten ab.

    Ich kann es dann neu starten und dann geht es wieder eine Weile.

  • Software DVB-S demodulator

    Hallo Marcel,
    vielen Dank für die kontinuierliche Weiterentwicklung der Software.

    Ich habe einen LimeSDR-USB und würde ihn gerne auch für DATV Empfang verwenden.

    Leider erscheint beim Starten von DVB-S" GUI in der Auswahlliste oben mein LimeSDR nicht.

    Ich vermute ich habe etwas noch nicht richtig konfiguriert, denn der Lime funktioniert mit SDR-Radio einwandfrei.

    Hast Du einen Tipp, was ich machen kann damit er erkannt wird ?

    Falls sonst jemand hier in der Gruppe einen Tips hat, dann sind sie natürlich auch herzlich willkommen.

    Good catch Heiner, yes that seems to be the same type of amplfier.

    Nadher, it will be certainly not easy to retune those amplifiers from 1.55 GHz to 2.4 GHz. I think you will have to change a lot and I am not sure whether the transistors are internally matched ...

  • FreeDV via QO-100

    Hallo,


    Sigi DG9BFC und ich hatten heute Abend ein längeres QSO in FreeDV über QO-100.


    Es ist schon erstaunlich was in einen 1/2 SSB-Kanal untergebracht werden kann.


    Wir haben die Software Version 1.3.1 von FreeDV genutzt und die Modi 1600, 800XA und 700D ausprobiert.


    Das Audiosignal war im 1600er Modus am Besten, immer noch recht "digital" aber sehr gut verständlich.


    Wir haben die Frequenz 10489.645 MHz verwendet.


    Sigi stellt aber zur Diskussion ob wir die 10489.640 MHz als "Anruffrequenz" für FreeDV etablieren wollen.


    Nochmals vielen Dank an Sigi mich zu dem Test zu und meinem ersten QSO in FreeDV überhaupt zu motivieren.
