My FCDpro+ is dead. R.I.P.
I now use these RTL2832U devices and I'm satisfied.
Has anyone made a comparison between RTL-SDR V3 with the devices that Peter is using?

The LNB in the left box has a 25 MHz XTAL. Other OMs say this versioncan not be used for Phase-4.

Hi Hans,
I bought them both of those you put in the picture. Ok the box but then you have to look at the label on the LNB. The one circled in red should be the fabrication date in the YYMM form. My are marked 1301 and 1609.
The one marked 1609 (25 MHz) I installed it on the dish and it works very well without modifications. The note of the beacon is clean, stability is good after at least 10-15 minutes. The other LNB marked 1301 (27 MHZ) is on the bench ready to be modified if it were to serve.
Who operated with LEO satellites in UHF with 18 kHz doppler in 10 minutes does not get scared if there is to be corrected the frequency during a QSO on P4A.
Heh, I addressed Peter, ...
Best regards,
Patrick
Edit: But let's not start a flamewar here - let's focus on more imported stuff like building a GS system
ok sorry, absolutely, they are all legitimate choices. No war of religion.
ciao
I did not understand if you address me or Peter?
I was a beta tester of the first Red Hat Linux about 25 years ago but then Windows started to be decent and I made my choices. I still use Linux in those few absolutely necessary cases. Very few cases for me.
ciao, Lucio
Hi Peter,
I installed, but used little, Gqrx under Windows 7 and GNURadio. It works well with RTL2832U R820T2.
I do not know if you can help but try to see if this link is useful.
floppy disks came later. At first the programs were loaded with the cassette recorder and like Peter, I also copied this famous basic program line by line and then converted it into other languages.
Actually it was my wife who copied and typed the whole program. I debugged the beating errors that were inevitable.
It seems like yesterday...
sure, from Rio de Janeiro they have this situation:
This is why the LNB is rotated
Dish Setup Data
Elevation: 10.6°
Azimuth (true): 81.6°
Azimuth (magn.): 104.3°
LNB Skew : 65.7°
Turn clockwise standing behind the dish
This is our LNB and if I look at it in the mirror the horizontal polarization remains horizontal and the vertical polarization remains vertical. I can look at it through two mirrors but it does not change anything. The vertical remains vertical and the horizontal moves from right to left, but always horizontal remains.
The speech for circular polarization is different.
For us, who have the satellite to the east, the rotation is counter-clockwise looking from behind the antenna, towards the satellite. Yes, the connectors must point downwards, to the right, always looking at the antenna from behind.
Peter, are you by any chance saying that we're old?
Gennaro, that is not the beacon of Es'hail-2 but probably of Badr-4 ...
Try to go up a frequency of 5 MHz and see if you find Es'hail-2 otherwise the dish is not aimed well. If you find Es'hail-2 above it means that the dish is pointed well otherwise you are receiving the beacon of another satellite or the conversion frequency is not correct?
In any case, the thread where we talk about the beacons is this:
(in English please)
sorry, I update the profile. I am south of Rome and I am at the limit of the MENA beam. My locator is JN61FQ. The dish is 100 cm offset, LNB Octagon OTSLO.
ciao, Lucio
I confirm. 11270 there are two active transponders. Vertical and horizontal. Same position at 26°E
try one of these transponders Badr, 26°E beam BSS

For what are my observations I confirm your data to 100x100. This night they moved the satellite above and below 26° clearly visible also by the doppler. I'm not particularly equipped for the Doppler measurement but at certain times of the night it was clearly visible and then stabilized. They are probably testing the maneuverability of the satellite.
Last keps of this night confirm the position under 26 ° E. To be precise, 25.8595°E

According to the last keps, let's take them for good, the satellite is now at 25.21°E and according to these keps Es'hail-2 will reach 26°E by 01-01-2019 at 04:40:28 UTC. The previous keps gave to 31-1-2019 the achievement of the final position. Unfortunately (or fortunately) with the fixed antenna @26° I can not look for a better signal but the one that register is a constant increase of the signals.
Now I go to sleep, I put the blind scan, and when I wake up I see if I've caught something.

Peter, I agree with your considerations but in addition to the keps I'm also checking the signals from the satellite and with my dish fixed at 26 ° I see that, since yesterday, there is a strong increase in the signals on all the frequencies of Es' hail-2.
If this is the beacon of Es'hail-2 I'd never received it so loud before.
If the raspberry solution works well in practical operation and the software is more user friendly i will provide a memory card image and a manual / circuit board as soon as possible. But please be a little bit patient. Its only my hobby
Very interesting solution. You can show CPU performance and I / O Statistics?
Hi,
the satellite has been moving measurably to the east since yesterday...
I confirm, the satellite appears to be moving rapidly towards 26°E
Probable, small maneuver of the Es'hail-2 apogee engines in progress.
The satellite has moved eastwards with a slight acceleration compared to the last few days. Now: 24.6902° E
