I would say the mesh size is just at the edge of what is recommended for 10 GHz. One would assume 10% of the wavelength (2.8mm for 10.5 GHz) and you have closer to 4mm if I am not mistaken. It will somehow work but with decreased G/T (leakage from behind). That does not say anything about the parabolic shape or its deviation from the ideal shape. But give it a try

Well, good luck to the authorities trying to prevent people from owning the combination transistor-inductance-coil-battery. Which would be illegal by your explanation. I don't doubt your information but I strongly question the sanity of the lawmakers.. we have been fighting similar stupidities at QRL lately and even those who were enforcing the rules to us in the beginning admitted shortly thereafter that those were not applicable in the real world.
We as hamradio operators should be grateful for the privilege to build and operate our own designs. Let's make the best use of it!

Having the privilege to enjoy Qatari hospitality twice already:
'hail' like in 'mail' or 'snail' . The 'e' in Es'hailSat is almost silent. Es'hail or Suhail is the arabic name for the second brightest star in the night sky, Canopus.

(moved legal aspects to new thread)
-
Well first of all, if I work in an electronics workshop (which I do) why should I be not allowed to purchase RF amplifiers? The module itself is perfectly legal.. I am just not allowed to go on the air with it (hamradio is of course..).
Then, where do you draw the line between a preamplifier (receive) or driver amplifier? The latter would be TX but some of them can be used for both..
Just found out: HB9 is great.. we do not care about CE.
But maybe all the legal regulatory things should go in a dedicated thread to keep this one clean.
-
Well, first of all why should I ask for a label saying 'hamradio equipment'? It is a simple RF amplifier and this is not restricted in any way. The question about CE declaration is actually a good one.. I had always the impression that (sub-)modules do not need CE, components likewise. Never can remember any NE555 bearing a CE declaration.. and the amplifier itself cannot be used on its own.

What is the wobbly nature of the Arabsat downconverter passband? Mesurement artefact or feature of the converter?

DL5RDI: exactly what i mean...
I want to be sure that my signal is clean before i transmit over EH2

A very good and respectable motivation for sure, but if we are honest 99% of all hamradio operators don't do this. Going full duplex as suggested for satellite operations is very helpful here but the round trip time is messing with the brain. It needs a bit of practice to cope with a delayed version of own voice.

That's what I did with AO-40.. works fine. A pair of binaural detectors (ears) and some experience. Not as perfect as modern-day SDRs but good enough.

I should have rephrased:
HB9 limit is 100W (no idea why more than DL, which is 75W)
Never mind, I take the extra 1.25 dB
-
my mistake Heiner, you are correct!

feel free... I am kinda busy right now
Digikey.com has them for 269.95 USD

Yes, it's TX only (don't need RX on 2.4). Final transistor is labeled
YP07271815
According to Twitter (tnx DL4TMA !), this is from Innotion Inc (CN). We have a datasheet for the driver (YP2233W), which has 26 dB gain and P1dB of 35 dBm. So drive limit is +9dBm, which is right what is said on the AliExpress website.

Don't hurry.. 26 weeks lead time and out of stock already

from the notes in the insertion it seems a heatsink is necessary for powers higher than 5 watts
"Note:
- Electric current: 12V 5A
- Please add extra radiator aluminum fin or fan when the output power over 5W
- Please connect the antenna first then supply power, finally connect the signal device."
Yes.. that should be observed.. at 20W out and 30% efficiency, we talk about 40-50W heat dissipation. Good heatsink is a PA's best friend . Thanks for pointing it out!

Very interesting. Shame they won't ship to G-Land
Just seeing it.. wondering why that is (seriously!). Should be no different than to HB9.

Just use some pigtail like this when mounting it in the enclosure?:
I would mount it very close to the feed with a short UT-141 hardline, so SMA-SMA is preferred for me.

DB2OS: thanks for the correct subforum.. my mistake.

only change required by the user is to change output connector from RP-SMA to SMA. 5 minute job. 33 dB gain up to 15W, no compression yet to be seen. 12V input @ 5A max.
