At our club we measured phase noise of (modified) LNB's last year summer. One of our members brought a R&S analyser (cost: around 200.000 Euro !) and we got nice pictures.
Having a 'benchmark LNB' I determine p/n of other LNB's qualitatively by recording a tone with the same receiver/settings.
I analyse the tone in Audacity and from that it can be seen/heard of the 'new' tone has more , or less, distortion on it.
Bad phase noise reveals as 'raspiness' of the tone (in fact it's super imposed FM).

I remember doing phase noise measurements in the 1980s. There was a test set, HP3048A? that cost many thousands.

ciao @ Markro92 hello @ Markro92 a week of sadness I can no longer encode the encoding signal, all are in the SHORT system and I don't understand the difference between SHORT and NORMAL modes, the DVBS_GUI program version 2.10 and version 2.12 a lot of coding problems !! ! I'm about to abandon it !!! you cannot stay hours hours without receiving if normally normal ok; ?

I have also problems with the 2.12 Version....the older version 2.11 works mutch beter here...
perhabs a option for you also?

Ich wurde gerne 2.10 oder 2.11 au mal versuchen weil 2.12 functioniert aber sehr instabiel.
Lauft hier on RTL stick und win 10 mit 1 meter spiegel..
Vielen dank fur die vielllllle arbeit, aber es freud uns vieeeeeellllll...

Used a new key on RTL SDR.COM with version 2.0.12 problems, playing with version 2.0.10 and very stable and well received, I receive the signal with a 1 meter antenna. receiving version 2.0.12 and difficult coding for the RX system, today the parabola is set, the maximum signal seems to be fine

Thanks for the info.
Never found 2.0.10 yet but got a version 2.0.11 received thanks to PE1ANS.
Was not a improvement, most likely me used to work with 2.0.12 to much resulting in better signals.
In the mean time i got a pluto Adalm and worked with that on the NB..
This results in no DATV activity as pluto is not supported in this DVB-S software..
Did lots of improvements on the reception part witch may result in better working of the DATV.
So i will fire up the RTL stick this weekend and do some more tests...

Hi @GOWZL Thanks for your advice to understand under windows 10 if it works using RTL-SDR, I have to find the time available all days are with the grandson 1 half years I see for Sunday install windows 10 I'll give info

My signal strength is my problem, I changed the bias-t and got an extra 1db and here is the result a few seconds of video. I need to updgrade my dish it is about 90cm with a POTY feed.

@SWL - markro92 No I have not got version 12 working yet, and only been able to decode 333ks videos so far. My MiniTiouner has arrived from France so just need a bit of time to put that together now.

Tony I tried Minitiouner to be able to receive Sym Rate 66 FEC short 5/9 also Sym Rate 35 FEC short FEC 5/9 difficult also and a good Minitiouner receiver, I had trouble getting, I started the DVBS-2 GUI Version 2.0.10 Received 100x100, I tried version 2.0.12 and difficult to code !!! SWL - markro92 if version 2.12 could be better with the same functions as V2.10 I would be happy not to abandon the GUI program ... !!!!
