I'm starting to think that may have been a coincidence as I've just tried it again and cant get a lock!

Ok, without attenuator the FFT plot also looks fine. far from overdriving
I would have more information if you captured the whole window in your screenshot.
What exactly goes wrong? timing or carrier lock?
Do you see a circle in the FFT plot? or just noise?
If you just see a circle, you maybe need to increase carrier recovery gain a bit until it locks. When there is no circle, you don't have timing lock and you need to re-adjust the symbolrate because the PLL loop drifted away. You can see that happening when the symbolrate on the bottom of the screen drifts away from the symbolrate you've set with the slider.

The timing appears to lock it fluctuates between 1999.xx to 2000.xx - I get the circle but it seems to fade out and in at about 1Hz. The carrier recovery seems to look ok - but the buffers quickly rise to 8000.
When it worked the sync_confidence started going up and the buffers looked pretty static. I just don't seem to be able to repeat it.
This is all on the Beacon with a GPDO locked PLL.

@SWL - markro92: Any chance to add in addition to just the BB gain slider also a RF gain slider (for those SDR like e.g. RTL SDR which support different setting of BB gain and RF frontend gain)?
This way one could comfortably bring some of the strong LNB levels down a bit without the use of attenuators by just applying manual frontend gain settings.
Just a suggestion.....not high priority.
And great to hear about Airspy
Keep up your very excellent good work.

Looks like signals under 5dB are not decoded with RTL dongle
But i managed to almost recive the beacon with out to many lost bits, at least a steppforward:

hello well now I have the new CPU with the coreldro 3 AVX system .. the dish I receive the signals of the OM but the constellation does not happen what can be non coding

First remove the enabled from the carrier recovery Checkbox, that makes tuning easier.
then center the signal EXACT in the middle of the waterfall, sometimes you see a faint line in the middle, this is the pilot tone (appears not on all signals!)
Then again select the bitrate in the upper Right corner > 250/333 usw.
if you now see a CIRCLE in the IQ plot THEN enable the carrier recovery and you should see the four points there.
Now the stream to VLC should work.
-
Hi, yes, but the signals look very week. they will be hard to lock. but maybe it works
DB8TF: what do you mean with pilot tone? If you mean pilot symbols then no, they wouldn't cause a line in the spectrum, they are scrambled with the PLSC like the data symbols (slots). In DVB-S2, QPSK doesn't have pilots enabled anyway, because there is no need for them.
-
In some of the DATV Signals (in the AMSAT beacon too) you see a faint signal exactly in the middle of the Signal.
Decoding here works best when i click on this signal and so center the DATV signal using this "Pilot" tone.

Dear Tony, I see it hard. In my opinion it depends on your processor, from the photo I see that it is an i3. I with your same settings (more or less) I can barely see with an i5 the constellation and the video with audio on VLC. By

Hi Giuseppe thank you, yes I see the constellation happens but they are of slesciii not stable, even this morning I am not here the constellation I don't see, I don't see the tone of the binca line in descent but only the centering point, I see on the Amsat's warning the OM and I do the research and OK but I see nothing patience

Tony, first of all yesterday many Signals were not good decodable.
On your 3rd Picture you see that the SR value (number below waterfall) is way of 250ks...
Try loop damping at 0,002 and loop gain about 2-4.
What are those many lines you see in the waterfall in pic 3&4?
They normally don't appear.
Also set BBb gain a little bit lower, here it works best when the signals are bright blue and decoding gets worse if they turn to yellow

hello all ,
just to let now that h265 is NOT standard included in vlc (3.0.6)
