No sign from desense here with the Kuhne LNB. Beacon downlink while uplinking (somewhere close to transponder input) at 44 dBm power at the feed.
Try another test and set the receiver to 10489 Mhz
What is this transponder on frequency 10,829,5 - 10,836 ?
Direction 26E
Which satellite is this signal coming from?
What dish size do you have ? What polarisation does the signal have ?
IF polarisation is H and dish is <80cm, then it is probably transponder 11 of ASTRA 2 (10.832 H)
Tnx DL5RDI
Dish 80cm polarisation V
Hello all,
I am a bit confused about the polarisation of the two beacons. I set my 1.4m prime focus antenna up a week or so ago and couldn't get a decent polarisation adjustment on the 10706MHz beacon so I used one of the TV muxes instead to achieve an approximate setting. For the last week I've been seeing the 10706MHz beacon with a S/N of about 38dB and the 11200.5MHz beacon with S/N of about 18dB so I assumed I had some cross-pol still. Today however I'm seeing 11200.5MHz with S/N of 38dB the same as the 10706MHz beacon, although today the higher one has modulation at +/-15KHz and the lower one does not. So, are they linear or circular, or is it just a case of spacecraft manoeuvring or power level changes?

Dear All,
Made my first reception attempts and looks like got the 11205 MHz beacon (Hungary, Budapest). I see something on the 10706 MHz part as well but suspicious that not seeing side bands (may just my signal too weak?). It was a fun to me as my first Ku band SAT dish adventure Satellite AR android helped me but still was not easy. Using an old, abandoned and rusty analog sat TV dish, Inverto universal LNB, DIY bias tee + Signal Hound (later RTL-SDR V3 and OpenWebRX live stream)

Hello all,

The beacons are RHCP. So not suitable to set the skew angle of your LNB.

When you see signals but not the expected patterns or only one of the two, you are likely pointed to the wrong satellite. This can easily happen as other satellites used beacons on almost the same frequencies, and are located e.g. at 31.5e and 19.2e.
It is easier when you have a DVB-S(2) receiver as you can verify the satellite you are pointed to by checking the TV programmes you receive.
When you are checking from Europe (i.e. not from the target area of these satellites) you cannot receive most programmes, but e.g. on 11996 MHz Horizontal 27.5MS/s 3/4 FEC you can receive a strong transponder with Arabic versions of news programmes. This is not from Es'hail-2 but from another Arabsat at 26e.
I've been using a Funcube Pro dongle and SDR-Sharp which seems to limit my visible bandwidth to ~+/-75KHz but when I checked with an analyser I can see sidebands on both beacons at ~+/-250KHz but only the additional sidebands at +/-15KHz on the 11205.5MHz beacon at the moment.

Thanks for confirming that.

That is correct. The 15kHz sidebands are not always there and at the moment they only appear on 11205 and not on 10706 but this can also be the other way around.
The 250 and 500 kHz sidebands are always there.
Of course even with a Funcube you should be able to see them by tuning around, just not in a single picture as with the RTL-SDR or other SDR receivers that can sample at 1 or 2 MS/s.
The beacons are RHCP. So not suitable to set the skew angle of your LNB.
.. and don't get confused: These beacons have nothing to do with the AMSAT transponder NB and WB downlink.. different antennas as well..
We still have to wait a few weeks more...
I came across a list today of EB frequencies, that might be useful when searching for the beacon:
http://frequencyplansatellites…pe-Africa-MiddleEast.html
I am not sure how accurate this list is.
I found a strong signal today on 10706MHz that is linearly polarised, when setting up a 1.2m offset dish, which may be from Arabsat 5 at 30.5E.
The link was already posted 5 times in this thread...

Thanks - sorry for the wasted bandwidth!
Do you know if the info in it is accurate?
I'm bit frustrated due some issues to receive test DVB- S beacon at 11.270, Cannot receive with Minitiotune, and I don't know why. Signals from EB are so strong.
I Don't think is a pointing issue, starting have suspect on Minitiotuner Express.
But seems software works fine, the circuitry and the software passes all test.
Suggestion ? Hints ?

Hm? Which DVB-S beacon on 11.270? Which satellite do you want to receive from?
