accidentally visited the Amsat-DL website and read that, according to your story, the main name, Radio-M1, disappeared, and Radio-M1 / AO-21_RS-14 along with our AMSAT-U-ORBITA “migrated” to the east, for 600 km , from Molodechno to Kaluga:

Oh RS-21 One LEO best satellite built after AO-10 and 13. I rember signal 20 dB over nine...very strong on 2mt..., good QSO. deep regret...

Ah yes I remember the days when Leonid UA3CR first visited the AMSAT-UK colloquium and there was a lot more contact between Russian and western amateur satellite groups!

And he also was a very nice guy...

I remember me about the scheduled FAX transmissions. I decoded it with a PK-232 and DOS-faxsoftware. Good old days.

Yes I do remember quite well too. A man von PA0 made the translation (Chris van Berg?) and the teacher from Kettering, a lot of british humor. Still have the photos!!!

Leonid Labutin UA3CR was a great man and I'm still in good contact with his son Eugene (RZ3AAO).. He visited me many times in my home and whenever I'm visiting Moscow we meet...

When reading some of the messages from Vladimir's archive, I remember that I once received a "top secret" encoder & modulator for the command uplink in an attempt to override the Informator-1 control when the satellite felt silent.. All the hams in Hannover got mad on this strange signal.. hahaha

I could not resist to open and look inside of the "black box". I was totally impressed by the engineering work. I also remember that there were many miniature tubes. And it looked very different from what we knew in the West. Really amazing..

Looking back, the Radio-M1 with RUDAK II and INFORMATOR-1 with the planned Koskon constellation were somehow ahead of time...

Yes, you are right, Leonid was an interesting person and could “ignite” many of his ideas.

The story about Rudak-2

Leonid, UA3CR, revoked the license for violation. The package connection then we had an unresolved type. A community group was created, I entered there, wrote appeals to various authorities. However, the one-on-one format was more efficient. One of these meetings turned out to be successful, my arguments that “for Labutin his call sign UA3CR is not only more important than his name, but even air” had an effect. Nikolai Valentinovich laughed and said: “Well, you can give your Labutin, we will return the call sign”.

A couple of hours later, Labutina rang the doorbell of the apartment, Lyudmila Ivanovna, his wife, opened it and immediately from the doorway: “Volodya, save Labutina, do something !!!” He told me about the promise “from above”. Labutin immediately cheered up, says: “Isn't it time, you, in Molodechno, to make your satellite?” I told him what we were already doing, contract with Ministry of Geology. Approved Terms of Reference, instead of the wage item included on board an amateur repeater 146/435 MHz. Before that, all the RS“s were 29/146 MHz. Leonid caught fire and immediately offered to cooperate with AMSAT-DL. He told that "Ariana drowned AO-9 from Rudak-1", showed the magazine from Amsat-UK with a photo of the wreckage. "People have suffered, you need to take on their new Rudak-2." I liked the idea, I promised to do coordination. It was possible in just 6 months to include Rudak-2 in the documents.

Labutin himself, at the expense of Dmitry Shparo (you have a lot of photos of skiers on your site), traveled to Sorrey with the Agreement and arranged coordination up to 1 millimeter, 1 milliwatt, and 1 dB!

Yes, summed up the complete absence of ground stations. There were only 2 pcs. for testing.

Yes.. RUDAK is a german acronym, but we liked it because it sounds also good in Russian
